Leon Webster, Fire Training Instructor
Leon is one of our Fire Training Instructors at FTG and has been with us for the last 12 years!
Outside of work, Leon dedicates his time to his local community by serving as a on-call crew commander at his local fire station and has been doing so for the past 18 years.
His favourite courses to run are our JOIFF accredited courses, where he enjoys going into more depth about firefighting and enjoys the positive culture the delegates bring with them.
Leon is also a boxing coach and enjoys keeping fit in his spare time, he enjoys hiking and spending time with his family whilst also being a content creator too! 📱
When we asked what Leon enjoys most about the job he answered: “I love being able to share my knowledge with delegates”.
Lionel Grove, Fire Training Instructor
Lionel is one of our Instructors at FTG, he has been with us for 12 years.
Before joining us at FTG, Lionel served in the emergency services in South Africa (Fire, Rescue and Medical) for 23 years. Lionel’s commitment to work and his passion for high standards of course delivery and maintaining an excellent level of safety is truly admirable.
Outside of work, Lionel enjoys traveling the world and capturing his memories and experiences through his camera lens, and when on home soil enjoys a spot of gardening...
His favourite course to teach at FTG is confined space, he enjoys it as it is completely different to the other types of training we provide. The delegates and the variation of job types that require City & Guilds accreditation is vast and he enjoys doing the practical exercises making it as realistic as possible.
When we asked what Lionel enjoys most about the job he answered: “Working with such a great team of instructors, we all bring so much experience and different skills to the table, it is always great working with such talented individuals.”
Michael Mason, Fire Training Instructor
Michael is one of our Instructors at FTG, he has been with us for the last 5 years.
Outside of work, Michael dedicates his time to his local community by serving as an on-call firefighter at his local fire station and has been doing so for the last 10 years attending a variety of different incidents.
His favourite courses to teach at FTG is our JOIFF accredited courses, as Michael enjoys the familiarisation of the procedures they use in the fire & rescue service. He enjoys teaching a variety of courses and likes having a different course each week to teach.
In Michael’s time outside of work, he is an avid Brechin City fan and enjoys supporting his club for home and away games as well as following Scotland for their international matches.
When we asked what Michael enjoys most about the job he answered: “Teaching delegates a brand-new skill set whilst still having a good time with the team. He enjoys the strong team ethic that all the instructors have.”
Scott Barnett, Fire Training Instructor
Scott is one of our Fireground Assistants at FTG, he is currently an instructor in training. Scott has been with us for the last 7 months and has been learning the courses and observing our instructors. Scott helps with all the essential equipment needed for the courses which includes charging the BA (Breathing Apparatus) sets, filling and maintaining fire extinguishers, maintaining a store of PPE for delegates and much more!
Outside of work, Scott is a on-call firefighter for Scottish Fire & Rescue service at his local community fire station. He enjoys going to the gym and maintaining his fitness levels, walking with friends, and watching the football supporting his favourite team!
Scott’s favourite course to help on is the MCA STCW 3 (Maritime Basic Safety Training), he enjoys the aspects of the rescue scenarios which are very realistic to the environment in which the delegates would have to perform their duties.
When we asked what Scott enjoys most about the job he answered: “Learning all of the different courses that FTG provide to its clients and enjoying working with such a hard-working team.”
Caz Ewan, Fire Training Instructor
Caz is one of our Instructors at FTG, she has been with Aberdeen International Airport for the last 26 years and has spent the last 12 years training delegates to safely extinguish fires on our fireground! Before joining FTG, Caz worked offshore and was part of the offshore fire team. After this she underwent CAA aviation firefighting training before becoming one of our instructors.
Her favourite course to instruct is the MCA STCW 3 (Maritime Basic Safety Training) as she enjoys the course content and the variety of delegates that must undergo the training.
In her time off, Caz is part of the Scottish Team for Kettlebell lifting and as an athlete competes worldwide in competitions and after all the heaving lifting Caz enjoys socialising with her friends.
When we asked what Caz enjoys most about the job she answered: “Helping delegates out when they are struggling or nervous, I like to help settle their nerves and make them feel comfortable by going at a pace that suits them.”
Keanu Grant, Fire Training Instructor
Keanu is one of our Instructors at FTG, he has been with us for 6 years and has an excellent knowledge of all our courses and dives straight into them.
Outside of work, Keanu is a on-call firefighter for Scottish Fire & Rescue service where he gives his time to his community serving as a vital part of the emergency services in his hometown and has done for the last 9 years. Keanu enjoys sports, especially football and boxing. He likes to wind down and spend time with his family and has a passion for motorbikes.
Keanu’s favourite course to teach is the MCA STCW 4 (Advanced Fire Fighting), he enjoys the variety of the course and with new delegates keen to learn regarding leadership and advanced firefighting techniques.
When we asked what Keanu enjoys most about the job he answered: “New people every week coming through the door with varied experience, and then being able to pass on my experience and knowledge to make a difference. I like working as part of this team, it is such a brilliant working environment”.
